This is about an old school attitude towards consuming too much alcohol on a weekday & turning up for work the next day with a hangover.
The attitude is because it was self inflicted you get no sympathy therefore go to work & battle through it.
Of course you could drive to work still over the limit, cause an accident on the road or at work.
I’m not sure if many sectors of the workplace still have the same attitude these days, but it was the culture when I was a young lad starting out at work.
